Thai Bar

The One Dollar Bar used to be a popular hangout in Acapulco's Golden Zone, above Condesa Beach. It was a sad day when it closed. The good news is that it's been resurrected as Thai Bar. The location is great, and the layout is perfect for mixing – both drinks and people. The place is a whole lot more like contemporary Mexico than Thailand, but that’s all good. There’s a lot of color in Thai bar, with a fire-spouting statue and fountains with great lighting. The open-air bar is a big oval, with a few tables spread here and there with umbrellas. On weekends, the live music (usually a local cover band) starts around 10 at night and goes until the last customer leaves, usually just before dawn. The selection is a mix of popular Mexican and English-language rock and pop. During Spring Break, the Thai Bar is host to hundreds of party-seekers. Go over to the bay side to catch the breeze when it gets really crowded. The drinks are affordable, and the crowd is basically out looking for a good time. The best nights, of course, are Fridays and Saturdays, and the crowd is mainly in the range of low- to mid-20’s and 30’s. Most of the time there's no cover, but when they do charge, it comes with a couple of drink tickets.
