Casa Yalma Kaan

A few minutes south and east of Acapulco’s airport, the Casa Yal’ma Ka’an seems like a universe apart from the noisy and bustling streets of Mexico’s busiest Pacific beach resort town. This small, boutique hotel is really a series of rustic cabanas, reminiscent of a Polynesian style, surrounded in luxury with discrete, yet attentive service. The house specialty is romantic vacation time for adult couples, with no kids around. Just time to spend with each other in privacy, surrounded by the breeze and the ocean. Only seven “rooms” are offered. They are widely-spaced, thatched-roof palapas with walls of bamboo and a balcony that looks out over the water – ideal for reading, sipping coffee or drinks, and relaxing. The baths are fully-equipped with stonework floors. All cabanas offer ceiling fans and air conditioning. Organic bath amenities are provided.
The restaurant has wood-fired ovens for baked dishes and pizza, and specializes in fresh seafood dishes, exquisitely prepared by the chef. Many guests prefer to take their meals in their palapa, on their balcony, or even on the beach, with torches or candles for illumination.
The spa offers hot stone massage, traditional massage, or “temascal,” a Mayan cleansing sauna for the body and the spirit. The pool is modern and refreshing, with a Jacuzzi at one end. It is surrounded by cushions and divans for sun bathing and more relaxation. Those who prefer the beach will find it almost like the shore of a deserted island.
When not completely booked, the hotel also offers a day pass for adult couples. Activities available include “para-motoring” (a form of guided paragliding for couples, with a fan to inflate the chute) and kayaking. Exercise facilities and a climbing wall are also available on premises.
